A Slap in the Face

A slap in the face,

That’s what it feels like.

That’s what it feels like

when I hear a name

that used to be mine.

That’s what it feels like

when you still call me

by that name.

That’s what it feels like

when you tell me

that I’ll “grow out of it.”

That’s what it feels like

when you get angry

when I correct you.

That’s what it feels like

when you tell me that “change takes time”

without even trying to change.

That’s what it feels like

when you say I’m being

“too pushy,” “too angry.”

That’s what it feels like

when you prioritize your resistance to change

over me and my wellbeing.

That’s what it feels like.

A slap in face.
