"The Way Back Down" by Calvin Rezen

Oh the boys climb up to the mountain top
To see if their world was round
When they got there they sat
For they saw it was flat
So they climbed the way back down

Oh they tell me I'm free, free to fall to my knees
Free to pray to their gods and to brutes
Throw my towels and my joys in
And pick out my poison
After all I've got nothing to lose

Oh the boys climbed up to the mountain top
To see if their world was round
But when they got there
Oh they saw it was square
So they climbed their way back down

Oh they tell me I'm free
To succumb to their greed
To revere all the power they stole
Send the stones you employ in
And pick out their poison
For fear that the stones have a soul

Oh the boys climbed up to the mountain top
To see if their world was rich
But when they got there
Oh they saw it was bare
And were pushed from the high mountain cliffs

They tell me I'm free
Free to slave for degrees
And they threaten with strife and with debt
Send the boys and the girls in
And feed them their poison
So they can sit through the drone of regret

Oh the boys climbed up to the mountain top
To see if their world was wise
When they got there they saw
All the wisdom was flawed
And they climbed down a mountain of lies

Oh they tell me I'm free
Free to fall to my knees
To surrender but not free to think
Try to kill and destroy
Try and pick out my poison
You can try but you can't make me drink

Oh the boys climbed up to the mountain top
To see what was left to be found
When they got to the top
They found innocence lost
So they climbed the way back down
